NA debate: Sea and islands sovereignty protection remains top mission

As scheduled, Ministers of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Science and Technology, Finance, Planning and Investment also join the discussion broadcasting live on national television and radio, and the NA’s channel.

Earlier, on October 30, most of deputies shared the views on positive socio-economic changes across spheres in 2019 despite a range of difficulties and challenges facing the country and the world.

Deputies agreed that 2019 is the second consecutive year when Viet Nam is expected to fulfill and surpass all 12 targets set by the legislature. The macro economy has remained stable with gross domestic product (GDP) projected to grow at 6.8%, inflation at below 3 percent, budget overspending at 3.4% and unemployment rate at below 4%.

The law-makers als put forwards solutions for the Government to address shortcomings.

Continue downsizing State apparatus

 Deputy Bui Si Loi from Thanh Hoa province highlighted the Government's efforts in raising monthly minimum wage for public officials, public employees and armed forced personnel from VND 1,490,00 to VND 1,600,000, an increase of 7.3%, applicable since 2020.

Loi urged the Government to continued downsizing the State apparatus in abid to further increase wage for public officials, public employees and armed forced personnel.

Pay greater attention to domestic market, security matters in FDI projects

Deputy Tran Hoang Ngan from Ho Chi Minh City suggested the Government pay more attention to domestic market with more than 96 million population and support Ho Chi Minh City to develop into a financial center of the region and the world.

He asked the Government and local authorities to pay more attention to such aspects as national security, environment, and technology in luring foreign direct investment.

Ngan also called for building a legal framework for digital economy, sharing economy, management and support of new business models and innovations.

Protection of sea and islands sovereignty remains top mission

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People's Army said defense-security diplomacy work has been strengthened over the past time with important outcomes.

The Party and State of Viet Nam always consisder protection of sea and islands sovereignty as the top mission, Nghia said.

Competent forces have strictly followed the guidelines of the Party, resolutely and consistently taken peaceful measures in line with international law in order to firmly maintain independence, sovereignty, and sovereign rights and national interests.

Earlier on October 21, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, “we have never made concessions”, while delivering report at the opening ceremony of the 14th Legislature’s 8th Working Session.

At the same time, Viet Nam has been keen on ensuring a peaceful and stable environment for national development course, PM Phuc emphasized.

He affirmed that Viet Nam will continue a string of consistent and resolute measures in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to protect national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The righteous policy, position and efforts of our Party and State have been widely supported by Vietnamese people and the international community, Phuc stated.
