NA Vice Chairwoman attends first plenary session of APPF 28

VGP – Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) Tong Thi Phong called on members of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF28) to join hands with governments to care about sustainable development, making sustainable and inclusive development as part of annual and long-term orientations for the sake of all sides.

Phong led the Vietnamese NA delegation to attend a plenary session on raising the parliament’s role in enhancing regional peace, security and prosperity at the 28th Annual meeting of the APPF28 held in Canberra, Australia on January 14. 

Speaking at the event, Phong highlighted the importance of multi-lateral parliamentary diplomacy, including the APPF, which brings dialogue opportunity, build trust and prevent disputes through respecting international laws, the United Nations Charters, advocating the development of the multi-lateral and free trade system and enhancing comprehensive connectivity. 

She proposed boosting parliamentary partnership in 2020 by strengthening mutual trusts, knowledge and respect, expand the parliamentary partnership between the APPF with APEC, AIPA and IPU and other international organizations to speed up coordination in addressing disputes on the spirit of dialogues and mutual support in line with international law. 

At the APPF Meeting of Women Parliamentarians, the Vietnamese NA delegation asserted Viet Nam’s policy on gender equality and the nation gained some achievements in this field. 

The Vietnamese NA delegation suggested members of the APPF review, amend, supplement and complete legal regulations on gender equality, internalize international commitments and communicate the role, rights and legitimate interests of women. 

While joining the plenary session on economics and trade, the Vietnamese delegation proposed completing the legal policies, creating a favorable, transparent, fair and sustainable environment serving for free trade and investment, the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and heading to the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement. 

The APPF members should actively join in the global and regional legal frameworks to develop digital economy, trade and improve labor capacity attached to the Industry 4.0.

They need to enhance supervision to ensure the harmony of commitments and related technical demands, especially regulations relevant to Certificate of Origin and farm products.
