NA Vice Chairman receives Canadian parliamentarians

VGP - Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam National Assembly Do Ba Ty in Ha Noi on January 18 received a delegation of the Canadian Parliament led by Senator Joseph A.Day, who are in Viet Nam for the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-26).

Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam National Assembly Do Ba Ty (R) receives Canadian Senator Joseph A.Day, Ha Noi, January 18, 2018

At the reception, Senator Joseph A.Day emphasized the need for the two countries’ legislative bodies to increase the exchange of all-level delegations, especially high-level ones, and between parliamentary agencies, in order to share experience in law-making, law enforcement and decision-making, thus facilitating the affiliation between the Governments and businesses of the two countries.

The Canadian Government and Parliament have attached importance to developing relations with Viet Nam, he stressed.

The Senator said that over the past time, Viet Nam has proven itself as an ideal destination in Asia-Pacific, a country with political stability and a trustworthy friend of Canada.

Canadian parliamentarians will continue to promote cooperation with Viet Nam as well as its National Assembly, while closely coordinating with the country at multilateral forums and mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, he pledged.

In turn, Mr. Ty reiterated Viet Nam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development; diversification and multilateralisation of relations; active and proactive international integration; and being a friend, a trustworthy partner and a responsible member of the international community.

In the foreign policy, Viet Nam treasures the friendship and cooperation with Canada, which is one of the world’s most developed countries and plays an important role in the international arena, he said.

The legislator stressed that Viet Nam wants to develop the comprehensive partnership with Canada in the principle of respecting independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions of each other, for mutual benefits.

Mr. Ty expressed his hope that the two legislative bodies will contribute to developing Viet Nam-Canada relationship more comprehensively and intensively, especially in such potential spheres as economy, trade, national defence, sustainable development, environmental protection and climate change response.
