National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (R) receives Tsutomu Takebe, special advisor to the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, Ha Noi, January 29, 2018

At the reception, Mr. Tsutomu Takebe praised the Viet Nam U23 football team’s sustained efforts to secure the second place at the recent Asian Football Confederation U23 Championship despite harsh weather in China.

He also congratulated Viet Nam on successful hosting two major regional events – the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 and the 26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

Describing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ people as a foundation for stronger Viet Nam – Japan relations, the advisor said 250,000 Vietnamese students in Japan are key to the future development of the ties.

In turn, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hailed diverse and effective exchanges between lawmakers of Vietnam and Japan.

The NA Chairwoman said the NA backs activities run by the Viet Nam – Japan Friendship Parliamentarians' Group and the Japan-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance. Ngan also expressed her belief that cultural exchange programmes will help further boost bilateral ties.

She also acknowledged Takebe’s contributions to the two countries’ friendship and cooperation, especially in terms of cultural and people-to-people exchanges over recent years.

The Viet Nam-Japan festival underway in January this year is viewed as a meaningful activity of a raft of other events in celebration of 45-year relations between the two nations, she said.

She also told her guest that the Viet Nam NA greatly appreciated joint projects coordinated by Takebe, such as the Viet Nam – Japan University, Viet Nam-Japan festival, and other trade connectivity and human resources training programmes.
