Viet Nam and Russia established diplomatic ties in 1950. The two countries established the strategic partnership in 2001 and upgraded it to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership in 2012.

The Viet Nam-Russia trade turnover valued US$ 4.5 billion in 2018, up 28.5% against a year earlier. The bilateral trade turnover reached US$ 3.4 billion USD in the first nine months of this year. Viet Nam mainly exported phones, clothing, agricultural products and seafood to Russia while importing oil and petroleum, steel, fertilizer and machinery.

As of February 2019, Viet Nam housed 127 FDI Russian projects worth over US$ 950 million, mostly in mining, oil and gas, manufacturing and processing.

Viet Nam had invested nearly US$ 3 billion in more than 20 projects in Russia, such as joint venture Rusvietpetro and TH Group’s hi-tech dairy farming project.

The countries have enjoyed sound relations between the two parliaments. The two sides have maintained the exchange of high-level delegations, creating a strong motivation for the development of the two legislatures’ collaboration, and contributing to strengthening the Viet Nam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership./.
