Mount Sam national tourism area to become a featured tourism center in 2030

VGP – The Mount Sam tourist site will meet the criteria of a national tourism area by 2025, and by 2030, the Mount Sam national tourism area will be developed into a featured cultural and spiritual tourism center, joining Chau Doc city and neighboring tourist sites to form an important destination of the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.

The aforementioned goal has been set in the master development plan for An Giang province’s Mount Sam national tourism area until 2025, vision to 2030, which has recently been approved by the Prime Minister.

According to the master plan, the Mount Sam national tourism area strives to receive about six million arrivals of visitors in 2025, including 800,000 arrivals of over-night visitors. The figure is expected to increase by seven million by 2030, including over one million arrivals of over-night tourists, generating a revenue of over VND6 trillion (US$264 million) and creating jobs for nearly 9,000 direct laborers.

As planned, the Mount Sam national tourism area will focus on developing old urban areas to preserve Chau Doc city’s traditional architecture and culture; public facilities and houses combined with services and tourism; cultural parks, entertainment, sports and resorts in service of tourists; ecotourism combined with services to serve visitors; over-night accommodation establishments of tourists; eco-resort tourism; resort combined with eco-farm; and cultural and spiritual tourism, and the Mount Sam festival. 

The Mount Sam national tourism area will focus on exploiting cultural and spiritual tourism and festivals; step by step expanding the activities on recreation, exploration, sports and relaxation; effectively exploiting tourism potential  in the Mekong River delta and  from Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeastern region and the Central Highlands; and attracting international tourists from the Greater Mekong Subregion countries.

Regarding tourist products, the Mount Sam national tourism area will prioritize the development of cultural and spiritual tourism products, focusing on the pilgrimage, the Ba Chua Xu Temple Festival and other relics. Other types of tourism will also be developed, including sight-seeing tourism, sport tourism, community-based tourism, resorts, camping and recreation services.
