Another batch of around 269,100 doses landed in the capital city of Ha Noi on the morning of August 26.

They are part of additional one million Pfizer vaccines doses donated by the U.S. to Viet Nam. The rest of the pledged vaccines (263,250 doses) will arrive in Ha Noi on late August 27.

So far, the U.S. has donated six million COVID-19 vaccine doses for Viet Nam, including five million Moderna vaccine doses via COVAX Facility and one million doses of Pfizer vaccine.

The U.S Vice Prescient Kamala Harris, who is on a visit to Viet Nam from August 24-26, said the U.S. will continue to provide medical supplies and help improve Viet Nam’s capacity to respond to other health threats in the future.

As of  August 25, the Southeast Asian nation administered 18,095,473 COVID-19 vaccine doses, with 2,039,251 people fully vaccinated, the Ministry of Health said.

According to the announcement of the U.S. Embassy, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are supporting Viet Nam’s response to COVID-19 with an additional US$23 million in technical assistance and programmatic support, bringing the total assistance provided since the start of the pandemic to nearly US$44 million.

The USAID also provided the Viet Nam Red Cross US$1 million to reduce the impacts and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in vulnerable communities.

The U.S. Department of Defense has committed to provide 77 ultra-low temperature vaccine freezers to assist vaccination distribution efforts in all 63 provinces.
