More than 130 Vietnamese citizens brought home from Malaysia and African countries

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, in recent times, many Vietnamese citizens stranded in African countries with expired visa or without accommodation have voiced an urgent need to soon return home.

In that context, on June 24, with support from the Vietnamese Embassy in Nigeria in collaboration with authorities of the host country and the Vietnamese business community and people in Nigeria and Cameroon, 90 Vietnamese citizens moved to Lagos, Nigeria and boarded a flight of the Ethiopian flag carrier to Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

On June 25, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia coordinated with Viet Nam Airlines to bring home the aforementioned 90 citizens together with more than 40 other Vietnamese workers stranded in Malaysia.

Right upon their arrival at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh City), all the passengers and crew members on board received heath examination and were put under concentrated quarantine in line with regulations.

Under the Prime Minister’s direction, more flights will be carried out by Vietnamese authorities, Viet Nam’s overseas representative agencies and domestic airlines in the near future to repatriate Vietnamese citizens, depending on the pandemic’s developments in the country and the world, citizens’ aspirations and quarantine capacity of localities../.
