More Vietnamese citizens safely brought home from South Asian nations

VGP – About 200 Vietnamese citizens were brought home safely from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives on July 2-3 thanks to the joint efforts by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese embassies in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, budget carrier Vietjet Air, and competent agencies of the host countries.

More Vietnamese citizens safely brought home from South Asian nations

The passengers included children under 18; students who have completed their overseas study programs; monks, nuns and followers forced to return home due to the closure of Zen schools; stranded tourists; and workers with expired labour contracts.

The flight was arranged to land in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to pick the maximum number of Vietnamese citizens in the South Asian region.

Amidst the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, many countries have decided to apply travel restrictions. In that context, the Vietnamese embassies in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India actively worked with local authorities to prepare all necessary procedures for Vietnamese citizens from Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives to transit in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and take a flight home.

At the same time, the Vietnamese embassies in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh sent officials to directly arrive at the airports and coordinate with the host nations’ airlines and agencies to instruct the citizens to complete the necessary procedures.

With the aim of ensuring health of citizens and preventing the spread of the disease, Vietjet Air strictly implemented security, safety and epidemiological measures throughout the flight. Upon arrival at Quang Ninh province’s Van Don Airport, all crew members, flight attendants and passengers received medical checkups and were put under quarantine as regulated.

Earlier, the Vietjet Air flight also carried some Bangladeshi citizens in Viet Nam back to their country.

Vietnamese authorities, Vietnamese representative offices abroad and domestic airlines will continue conducting more flights to bring Vietnamese citizens home in the near future, based on the pandemic developments at home and abroad, the citizens’ aspirations, and localities’ quarantine capacity.
