MoH to Withdraw Unused COVID-19 Vaccine Doses after May 5

VGP – The Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked localities to accomplish the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign before May 5 otherwise unused vaccine doses will be withdrawn.

April 16, 2021 2:23 PM GMT+7

The announcement was released at a virtual meeting on COVID-19 prevention and vaccine inoculation on April 15.

Previously, the ministry passed a plan to allocate 811,200 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, delivered through COVAX Facility, to all 63 provinces and cities in the country and the military and police forces.

The above vaccine doses will expire on May 31, thus the ministry urged localities to doubt effort in inoculating priority groups.

So far, 49 provinces and cities have received the vaccine doses and the rest will be delivered to other 14 provinces and cities in coming time.

Earlier, newly-elected Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh tasked localities and the MoH to save every dose of vaccine and avoid vaccine waste before expiry date.

The MoH said the inoculation program, which was kicked off on March 8, has been on schedule and more than 73,000 people have received their first jabs.

About one third of them (33%) suffered from slight allergic reactions after the vaccination.

In Viet Nam, the rate of adverse vaccine reactions is lower than in many other countries. No cases of blood clots have been reported in Viet Nam.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long assessed that Viet Nam copes with high risks of disease outbreaks while neighboring countries (Thailand and Cambodia) and others are struggling with disease resurgence.

Viet Nam has gone 21 days without any locally-transmitted cases while a series of imported case have been confirmed.

Long said the disease control work remained a big task for Viet Nam while rescue flights are still on place.

The Ministry will send working groups to border localities to supervise disease prevention missions. Border forces are asked to prevent illegal immigration.

Viet Nam documented 2,758 cases of coronavirus infections, 2,445 recoveries, and 35 fatalities./.
