Minister advances plan for economic corridor

VGP - Minister of Industry and Trade Vũ Huy Hoàng has approved a plan for the industrial development of the Lạng Sơn-Hà Nội-Hải Phòng-Quảng Ninh economic corridor in the north.

March 15, 2012 10:10 AM GMT+7

It focuses on developing several industry groups - mechanical and metallurgy; electronics, information technology, agro-forestry, food and beverage processing; energy; textiles, footwear and chemicals; construction materials production and supporting industries.

Under the plan, Lạng Sơn Province will improve its mining sector, cement production, electricity, auto assembly, timber processing and electronic products.

Bắc Ninh Province and Hà Nội will create a zone specializing in hi-tech industry and set up industrial parks for supporting industries and information and technology.

Hà Nội itself will also establish high-tech zones and industrial zones for the production of consumer goods. The capital will also establish a centre for fashion design.

Hưng Yên and Hải Dương provinces together with Hải Phòng City will build industrial areas for producing textiles, footwear and industries to support accessory manufacturing.

And Hưng Yên and Quảng Ninh provinces, again with Hải Phòng City, will join hands to become a thermal power center.

Hải Dương Province together with Quảng Ninh and Lạng Sơn provinces and Hải Phòng City will create close links in manufacturing and distributing cement.

In addition, Hải Dương Province will develop textile and garments, footwear, electrical appliances, electronics, food processing and beverages.

Hải Phòng will focus on producing mechanical engineering products, steel products, metallurgy, oil refining, aquaculture processing and beverages.

The city has the advantage of a fully developed port, so it can also focus on developing supporting industries for the production of components and electronic parts assembly.

Quảng Ninh Province will also become a centre for coal mining and thermal power, and, in conjunction with Hải Phòng, will manufacture super-magnetic and super-gravity equipment, as well as stay involved in ship repairing and building.

With the advantage of raw materials, Quảng Ninh will develop cement production and assembling large trucks for mining.

Manufacturing areas of products of super-magnetic field, ship building, synchronous equipment for manufacturing cement, thermal power, non-standard equipment devices will be established in Hải Phòng and Quảng Ninh.

A chemical industry centre will be built in Bắc Giang and Hải Phòng. Energy production areas will include Hải Phòng City, Quảng Ninh, Hải Dương, Bắc Giang and Lạng Sơn provinces.

To develop industries along the economic corridor, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has also compiled a list of 55 major investment initiatives, including 13 energy projects.

The Ministry also proposed that People's Committees in the area review the plan and adjust local initiatives to ensure effective implementation and avoid overlapping.
