Military doctors gain US experience of safe blood transfusion
VGP - The US Department of Defense and the Military Medicine Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense have jointly launched a three-day training course in the southern city of Cần Thơ to help Vietnamese military laboratory officers and technicians master new skills of safe blood transfusion.

The training course is part of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which is also known as PEPFAR and is America's initiative to combat the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.
From August 10 to 12, the trainees had wide chances to learn and practice lessons on international-standard safe blood transfusion from experts who are members of the United States Pacific Command (PACOM), Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS) and leading Vietnamese military hospitals.
Those trainees come from four blood transfusion centers of Việt Nam's military hospitals which are expected to provide safe sources of blood for both military and civilian treatments.
Since 2004, PEPFAR has assisted the four centers in upgrading infrastructure, bettering equipment, training staff, offering advices and testing HIV on voluntary basis.
It was reported that the US Government has supplied Việt Nam with over US $320 million to prevent HIV/AID./.
