Micronesia asked to support VN to win UNSC non-permanent seat

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked Micronesia to advocate Viet Nam’s bid to win a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council tenure 2020 -2021.

The Government chief made the request at his reception for Speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia Wesley W. Simina in Ha Noi on Thursday.

PM Phuc also asked Micronesia to support the positions and efforts by ASEAN and Viet Nam regarding the East Sea issue, affirming Viet Nam welcomes efforts by all countries to contribute to maintaining peace and stability and ensuring freedom, security and safety of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

He suggested that both countries should commence talks towards siging agreements on investment encouragement and protection, double taxation avoidance, and technical cooperation to lay legal foundations for beefing trade and investment ties.

Viet Nam also wishes to cooperate with Micronesia in other fields like agriculture, aquaculture, tourism, education and training among others, said PM Phuc.

For his part, Simina briefed the host about the outcomes of his earlier talks with top Legislator Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, during which both sides figured out measures to foster the bilateral cooperation.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1995, the bilateral ties have advanced in both bilateral and multilateral aspects.

The Micronesian Speaker expressed thanks to Viet Nam for supporting his country to adapt to climate change./.
