This is one of the criteria that the member countries must pursue to deliver on the leaders’ vision for a region of peace, stability and sustainable development, Phuc stressed while addressing the 3rd virtual Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Summit on Monday.

The member countries also need to drive cooperation forward on the basis of trust, sincerity, straightforwardness, and friendship as well as on the basis of the principles of equality, consensus, mutual benefits and observation of international law, Phuc added.

As the region is facing unprecedented challenges, Phuc emphasized that the member countries need to focus on minimizing negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and sharing information and experience on the pandemic in a regular, timely and transparent manner.

Phuc also called for enhanced cooperation in management and use of the Mekong water resources and long-term solutions to sustainable development in the region.

The region should be well-informed in terms of hydrological data, strengthen the network of automatic monitoring stations and warning systems, and coordinate with the Mekong Commission and international partners.

At the conclusion of the summit, the leaders approved the Vientiane Declaration and attended the hand-over ceremony of co-chairmanship from Laos to Myanmar.

Initiated in 2015, the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation consists of six countries, namely Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam./.
