Master scheme on Mekong Delta Region adjusted

VGP – Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung has signed a decision to ratify adjustments to the building planning on the Mekong Delta Region by 2030 with a vision towards 2050.

Accordingly, the region will pursue green growth, sustainability, and climate change adaptation; play an important role for the country and the Southeast Asian region; become a key region in agricultural production, aquaculture, maritime economic growth, and ecological  tourism. 

Developing industries and agro-fishery processing 

Regarding industrial production, the region will develop industries, agro-forestry-fishery processing, and food production by combining regional production of raw materials; product diversity, and consumption market expansion. In addition, agricultural auxiliary industries will be developed. Clean and renewable energy will be encouraged and promoted. 

Key industrial sites will be developed according to regions. Specifically, multidisciplinary industrial parks will locate in Long An and Tien Giang provinces, and surrounding areas of HCMC with a total area of 10,000 hectares. 

The center of agro-fishery industries and energy will be arranged in Can Tho City with a total area of 1,500-1,800 hectares. 

Other centers of energy and agro-fishery processing industries will have an area of 2,000-2,400 hectares in Ca Mau, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Kien Giang, and Bac Lieu provinces and develop power stations, wind energy, and maritime economic zones.  The rest of provinces will develop processing industries, agro-fishery sector, and auxiliary industries. 

Tourism development and ecosystem protection

The Mekong Delta Region is a key region of national tourism with diversified water, river, sea, and island tourism products in national tourism sites namely Phu Quoc, Nam Can, Ca Mau Cape, Tram Chim, Nui Sam, Thoi Son. 

Can Tho, Phu Quoc and My Tho urban areas are regional tourism hubs. 

The master scheme also stressed the importance of establishing regional tourism routes which will connect natural heritages and culture; building synchronous infrastructure system and technical sites in favor of tourism development and regional connectivity; and developing tourism sites./.
