Malaysian group invests in a coal-fueled power plant in VN
VGP – Việt Nam’s Power Engineering Consulting Joint-stock Company (PECC2) under the Electricity of Việt Nam (EVN) signed a US $1.8-million contract on January 7 with Malaysia’s Janakuasa Sdn Bhd to provide consultancy services to a coal-fueled power plant in the southern province of Trà Vinh.

The Government of Việt Nam allowed Janakuasa to invest in the BO (Build-Operation) project Duyên Hải 2
Duyên Hải poured with US $1.5 billion. Its construction is scheduled to start in 2011.
Once completed in 2014-2015, the plant, equipped with two 600 MW turbines, is expected to supply 7.2-7.8 billion kWh annually to the national power grid, meeting power needs in the southern region and the country as a whole. Duyên Hải 2 is designed to consume about 3.5 million tons of coal per year.
Janakuasa Sdn Bhd’s President and CEO Ti Chee Liang said his group signed a package contract with Alstrom which will provide modern and environmentally-friendly equipment to the project. He said his company will do its utmost to protect the environment and abide by the Vietnamese regulations on environmental protection.
Under the signed contract with Janakuasa Sdn Bhd, PECC2 will conduct surveys and complete documents for the preliminary stage of the Duyên Hải 2 project.
