The Government leader made the point on January 8 at a conference held by the Ministry to review performance in 2017 and define tasks in 2018.

In 2018, the sector was asked to effectively manage land resources, tighten management of minerals; closely control environmental pollution; prevent environmental incidents at industrial clusters, urban areas, and trade villages; and fruitfully tap water resources.

The Deputy PM also stressed the importance of utilizing maritime potentials and resources; responding to climate change; and raising forecast efficiency.

Especially, perfecting institutions and regulations topped the leading tasks for the sector in 2018. Mr. Dung said that mechanisms and policies on State management over natural resources and environment must follow practical circumstances and development requirements. Perfect institutions would help generate a favorable investment and business environment for both enterprises and people.

Accordingly, the MNRE was asked to amend and submit to the National Assembly a series of revised documents on land, environmental protection, mining, water resource, hydro-metrology, maritime and island environments, and perfect subordinate documents on natural resource management, environmental protection and climate change response.

The ministry was requested to review, update, amend, and perfect sector development schemes.

The Deputy PM stressed the importance of strengthening management, exploitation, and utilization of mining in favor of socio-economic development, security, national defense, and environmental protection.

Finally, the Government leader tasked the sector to mobilize international and domestic resources to implement the National Strategy on climate change, the National Target Program for Climate Change Response and Green Growth for the 2016-2020 period./.
