MIC issues Viet Nam’s 2012 ICT White Book

VGP - The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) yesterday in Ha Noi released Viet Nam’s 2012 White Book on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

MIC Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong said that the book gives an accurate overview of the sector in the areas of ICT infrastructure, IT technology, post and telecommunications, IT application, ICT human resources and information security.

Especially, in the 2012 edition, radio broadcasting and television was added, reflecting the role in the development of ICT.

The book said that by the end of 2011, Viet Nam had 137.5 million subscribers including 127.3 million mobile phone, 10.2 million landline subscribers, and 30.5 million Internet users. There were 30.5 million Internet users in the country.

Over 16 million people also used 3G mobile networks, accounting for more than 80% of all broadband Internet users in the year.

Meanwhile, postal services earned over US$ 246.2 million, out of a total ICT turnover of US$13.7 billion, a year on year rise of 79%.

Broadcasting services also expanded to cover the whole country and provide people with varied services.

IT application is now being extensively applied in State agencies and making an active contribution to administrative reforms.

Almost every ministry, State agency, city and province have websites and portals./.
