The 27km-long line is of significant importance to socio-economic development and national defense and security in the island, noted PM Nguyen Tan Dung at the inauguration ceremony held on the same day.

This is part of the country’s effort to narrow the development gap among regions and facilitate maritime-based economy.

Earlier, the island districts of Van Don and Co To in Quang Ninh, Cat Hai in Hai Phong, Phu Quy in Binh Thuan, Con Dao in Ba Ria–Vung Tau, and Phu Quoc in Kien Giang were linked to the national power grid.

It is also the third submarine cable system for power transmission to island districts, following Co To and Phu Quoc islands./.
