Longan and lychee gain record season revenues

VGP – Thanks to favorable weather and effective advertisement, some northern localities enjoyed successful 2018 longan and lychee seasons.

The Provincial People’s Committee of Hung Yen reported that the locality churned out 48,300 tons of longan, the highest volume ever, representing a year-on-year surge of 30%. 

Especially, local farmers reached large contracts with big supermarkets to provide 1,743 tons of longan. For the first time, longan served for passengers flying flights of the national flag carrier Viet Nam Airlines. 

Total amount of consumed longan rose to 47,970 tons, equivalent of 99.31% of total harvested output. The province earned VND 1.05 trillion, up nearly VND 300 billion against last year. 

In Bac Giang province, 215,800 tons of lychee were harvested with a total value of VND 5.7 trillion, up VND 450 billion against last year.  

Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue praised the two provinces for proper trade promotion in both domestic and foreign markets. 

In the coming seasons, the provinces will focus on building trademarks, labels, and stamps of origin; conducting trade promotion; and expanding markets especially domestic ones./.
