Localities respond to World Environment Day

VGP – Localities are conducting a series of activities to respond to the “Action Month for Environment” and World Environment Day 2020.

June 01, 2020 8:56 PM GMT+7

June 5 has been designed by the United Nations as World Environment Day, a day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

The theme for World Environment Day 2020 is, 'Time for Nature,' with a focus on its role in providing the essential infrastructure that supports life on Earth and human development. This focus is expected to provide an opportunity for driving the momentum and public awareness of nature as a key aspect in the lead up to the 15th meeting of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). COP 15 was expected to take place in October 2020, but will be rescheduled for 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kon Tum Department of Natural Resources and Environment called upon unions to disseminate environmental protection; plant trees; and prevent plastic wastes. Districts were asked to hold the action month for the environment in combination with tree planting campaign in commemoration of late President Ho Chi Minh in 2020.

Business production sites were urged to review, assess and replace outdated equipment.

In Ha Long city, the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism launched a campaign in response to the World Environment Day under the motto “For a green planet and biodiversity.” Nearly 50 tourism agents participated in the event which encouraged meaningful actions such as power savings, preference of environmentally friendly products, limitation of the use of plastic bags.

Delegates from the Youth Union and the Department fanned out to clean Ocean Park Beach in Ha Long City.

In Dong Thap, modals of biodiversity development and poverty reduction, building of new rural areas were introduced./.
