Loan agreements with ADB passed

VGP- The Government chief just okayed the negotiation results for and contents of two loan agreements with the Asia Development Bank (ADB) to construct highways in greater Mekong sub-region (GMS) and to conduct the project on health assistance in the Southern Central Coast.

October 28, 2008 8:00 AM GMT+7

It was reported that ADB pledged to offer a package of US $26 million, valuing 84% of the US $30.8-million GMS project, in order to fund pre-construction activities of different highways (Hà Nội-Lạng Sơn, Hạ Long-Móng Cái and Bến Lức-Long Thành). These activities include designing the highways and related material facilities, updating the plans for resettlement and environment management, carrying out environment impact assessment (ETA), and facilitating site clearance.

The second project on health assistance, which lasts from 2008 to 2013, sets its goals to perfect the provincial-level healthcare system, nurture manpower, provide better services to poor women and ethnic minorities, and upgrade management of health sector in the coastal provinces of Central Việt Nam, including Đà Nẵng City, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi, Bình Định, Phú Yên, Khánh Hòa, Ninh Thuận, and Bình Thuận. ADB gives US $60 million for this US $80-million project.
