Mr. Heng Samrin will attend a ceremony to mark the 35th victory day of the Southwestern border war and Cambodia's victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime (January 7).

The Vietnamese leaders stressed the importance of the January 7 victory which stands out as an important milestone in the history of the bilateral relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia and helps revive the country.

The triumph ended one of the darkest periods in the Cambodian history, laying a foundation for the national restoration, construction and development over the past 35 years.

The Vietnamese leaders expressed their belief that Cambodia will continue to surmount difficulties and challenges to gain greater achievements.

They affirmed that Viet Nam always attaches importance to consolidating and enhancing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, considering it as an invaluable asset that needs to be fostered and handed down to future generations for mutual development and prosperity as well as for peace, independence, democracy, and social progress on the globe.

Mr. Heng Samrin showed his pleasure at the fine development of the bilateral ties and his country’s gratitude to the valuable and effective assistance of Viet Nam for Cambodia to wipe out Pol Pot genocidal regime and reconstruct his country.

He also voiced Cambodian National Assembly’s support for the realization of the agreement on border demarcation and landmark planting signed between the two Governments and hoped that both sides would soon complete the landmark planting process to build a borderline of peace and friendship./.
