The solar plant project becomes the largest of its kind in Viet Nam and Asia.

Dau Tieng 1 and Dau Tieng 2 solar power plants have the designed capacity of 150 MW and 200 MW respectively, which will become operational in 2018 and 2019.

Dau Tieng 3 solar power plant, with the designed capacity of 150 MW, will be completed in the 2021-2025 phase and the upcoming solar power projects, with the total capacity of 1,500 MW will be operating after 2025.

According to the Government’s targets, solar power is expected to become the main renewable energy source in the future, with installed capacity to be increased from 6-7 MW by the end of 2017 to 850 MW by 2020 (1.6% of the country’s power generation) and 12,000 MW by 2030 (3.3% of the country’s power generation).

Viet Nam is among countries that enjoy the most sunlight in the world, with the Central Highlands and south central regions recording between 2,000 and 2,600 hours of sunshine every year, reported the Viet Nam Clean Energy Association.

Average solar radiation is 150 kcal/sq.m, about 2,000 to 5,000 hours per year.
