Lao Cai border economic zone to become province’s key economic driver

VGP - The Lao Cai border economic zone will be developed into the key economic driver and industrial, urban, trade and service hub of the northern province of Lao Cai.

Lao Cai border economic zone 

The PM has approved the development master plan for the Lao Cai border economic zone to 2040 with a vision to 2050.

According to the plan, the zone will be located on the area of 15,929.8 ha with the population of 90,000 people by 2040, including 45,000 laborers. 

The zone will have a core area and two wings. The service area covers more than 356 hectares of land, consisting of areas for fairs and exhibitions, representative offices of enterprises and organizations, a trading centre and bonded warehouse, among other facilities.

The industrial parks inside the zone includes operational industrial parks, processing and packaging zone for import-export, and an area reserving for services, logistics, warehouse and packaging.

A complex for tourism, entertainment and sports will be built. The plan also aims to develop diversified tourism kinds comprising trans-border tourism, sports tourism, trade exhibition tourism, upgrade spiritual and cultural tourist attractions and form new tourism route connecting the border economic zone and Sa Pa.
