After Hà Nam, Hưng Yên, Quảng Trị, and Cần Thơ, Kiên Giang is the fifth provincial beneficiary of USAID’s assistance.

Seven suburban districts in Kiên Giang, where 4,000,000 heads of fowl are raised, namely An Biên, Châu Thành, Giồng Riềng, Gò Quao, Tân Hiệp, Hòn Đất, and Kiên Lương, will get involved in the program.

USAID will work with other agencies to support the province to raise capacity of grassroots veterinary networks and local authorities in preventing and early coping with the epidemic outbreaks.

In addition, the agency will provide local medical staff, communal leaders, and poultry farmers with skills to control bird flu, medical staff at district-level with epidemiologic knowledge, and provincial-level staff with skills of designing plans for epidemic prevention.

It is reported that, bird flu outbreaks were timely put into control in Kiên Giang two years ago .

Since 2005, USAID has offered US $ 27.5 million for Việt Nam’s localities to launch their programs on bird flu prevention.
