The Government chief expressed his hope that both countries should strive to lift up the two-way trade volume to US$5 billion next year as committed.

Welcoming President Mattarella to the Viet Nam-Italy business forum, PM Dung called on Italian businesses to expand investment in petroleum, energy, infrastructure, garment and footwear, and timber processing in Viet Nam.

President Mattarella said his visit aims to affirm Italy’s resolve to enhance cooperation with Viet Nam.

He extended his congratulations to Viet Nam for successfully participating in the Expo Milano 2015 in which the Vietnamese Pavilion was among the most favorite destinations for tourists.

The Italian President voiced his support for the ratification of the PCA and early recognition of Viet Nam’s market economy status.

Regarding the East Sea issue, President Mattarella said Italy cares about stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea and elsewhere, sharing the position on ensuring peace and stability in the region, thus all disputes in the East Sea must be settled by peaceful measures on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.

President spoke highly of Viet Nam’s position and actions to maintain peace and stability in the region./.
