From 2009 on, the event will become an annual activity to reward all individuals or organizations proposing initiatives and technical measures for sustainable exploitation of marine resources and environment protection.

Numerous activities will be organized during the week in some coastal localities, including the launching of the World Environment Day and the Ocean Day in northern city of Hải Phòng, environmental clean-up campaign, a gala night, and a seminar themed "Ocean in regard to climate change and ecological security" in Quảng Ninh Province.

Especially, fives photos will be selected from a photo exhibition so-called "Oceans, seas and our community" to compete in a regional photo contest which is scheduled in November on the occasion of the East Asian Seas Congress 2009 in the Philippines.

Introduction of seas and islands is of significance to raise people’s awareness of seas as well as Việt Nam’s position, stated Mr. Nguyễn Văn Đức, Deputy Minister of MONRE.
