The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and other Politburo members.

On behalf of the Politburo, Tran Quoc Vuong, Permanent member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee’s Secretariat delivered a report highlighting achievements in socio-economic development, national defense, diplomacy, Party building work, anti-corruption among others and lessons learnt after four-year implementation of the 12th National Party Congress’ Resolution.

Addressing the event, Trong said the achievements over the past time came as a result of inheriting and promoting the fruits gained during the past over 30 years of reform under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam as well as the solidarity and unity of the whole Party, people and army.

Among the achievements, the country’s population has increased to 90 million from more than 22 million in 1945 and the GDP per capita rose to around US$2,800, Trong said.

People’s living standards have been much improved across regions while Viet Nam’s international prestige has been increasingly enhanced, he added.

Such achievements encourage our nation to better ourselves, the top Vietnamese leader said.

Solidarity and unity of the entire political system, Party, people and army is the first among lessons learnt, Trong emphasized.

He called for new viewpoints and guidelines on human and cultural development, governance and legislation in the documents which will be brought to discussion at the next National Party Congress scheduled to take place in early 2021.

Especially, Trong stressed that personnel work is the decisive factor for the next development period.
