Indonesia's 73nd Independence Day marked in HCM City

VGP - The Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association (VIFA)'s Chapter and the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) in Ho Chi Minh City held a meeting on August 16, to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day (August 17, 1945-2018).

Speaking at the function, Indonesian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanif Salim, thanked the HUFO and VIFA for their sentiments, while expressing his delight at the similarities in culture and the history of national liberation between the two countries.

He thanked HUFO for closely coordinating with the Indonesian Consul General in implementing cooperation activities, thus promoting the cooperation and friendship between Indonesia and Ho Chi Minh City.

Hanif Salim pledged to make every effort to bring about benefits for the diplomatic and economic ties between the two sides for the prosperity of each country and the region as a whole.

In turn, President of the VIFA chapter in Ho Chi Minh City, Le Ton Thanh, said that Viet Nam and Indonesia have gained many achievements in various areas since they upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership in June 2013.

The two countries have recorded numerous achievements, both intensively and extensively, through high-level visits and meetings, and the signing of cooperation agreements in the fields of politics, economy and culture, he added.

Mr. Thanh noted that through regular visits, exchanges of delegations and partnerships in a wide range of areas, the people of Ho Chi Minh City have gained a better understanding of the economics, culture and society of Indonesia, contributing to enhancing the bilateral relations in the future.

The two countries posted two-way trade revenue of US$6.4 billion in 2017, an increase of 20% over 2016.
