The deputy PM congratulated India on the country’s significant socio-economic achievements, with the impressive growth pace over the past time having made India one of the biggest economies in the world.

He affirmed Viet Nam’s consistent policy of always treasuring traditional and friendly relations as well as comprehensive strategic partnership with India, supporting India’s “Act East” policy and wishing for its increasing position in the region and in the world.

Deputy PM Dung also spoke highly of significant developments in bilateral cooperation over the past years, including the coordination to successfully organize the Indian PM’s visit to Viet Nam in September 2016 and the India visit made by Vietnamese NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan three months later.

Especially, the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership started in September 2016 has manifested extensive cooperation of high trust between Viet Nam and India, creating a driving force to develop bilateral relations in a more effective, extensive and substantive fashion, he said.

He asked Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni to work with Vietnamese agencies as a whole and the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry in particular to implement specific measures aiming to effectively realize high-level agreements between the two countries, particularly concerning the key pillars of politics, economics, defence-security, trade-investment, science-technology and education-training.

The deputy PM suggested both sides strengthen cooperation in the fields of India’s strengths and Viet Nam’s needs such as infrastructure, renewable energy and energy saving.

For his part, the guest expressed his delight to take office in Viet Nam when the two countries are celebrating 45 years of bilateral diplomatic ties (January 7, 1972-2017) and 10 years of strategic partnership (July 6, 2007-2017).

Since the visit to Viet Nam made by Indian PM Narendra Modi, the two countries have implemented many specific action programs to concretize the comprehensive strategic partnership, particularly in trade, investment and energy, with a focus on developing renewable energy sources and energy saving, Parvathaneni said.

In reply to Deputy PM Dung’s recommendation, he pledged to encourage Indian companies to visit Viet Nam and explore opportunities for cooperation and investment expansion in the Southeast Asian country.

He noted that a number of India’s big businesses are very interested in infrastructure (particularly transport infrastructure) and energy projects in Viet Nam.
