IPhO 2008: opportunity for young talents

VGP – The International Physics Olympiad 2008 (IPhO 2008) was opened on July 21 with the participation of around 370 candidates from 82 countries and territories, the largest-scale competition of its kind.

Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyễn Phú Trọng addresses the opening ceremony of IPhO 2008

At the opening ceremony of the event, Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyễn Phú Trọng stated: “It is the great honor of Việt Nam to host IPhO 2008. This also vividly represents the trust of the international physics community given to Việt Nam… The competition will be a good opportunity for all contestants to contribute to the development of the world’s physics.’   

Deputy PM Nguyễn Thiện Nhân underscored that IPhO 2008 is the get-together of most outstanding young talents. He also highlighted Việt Nam’s priority to improve intellectual standards of people, particularly in physics.

On July 20, the Deputy PM warmly received famous physics professors, who will assist the IPhO 2008 organizing broad in translating exam questions and assessing candidates.

Prof. Friedman from MIT University (US) highly spoke of Việt Nam’s physics and hoped that through IPhO, Vietnamese young talents will have more chances to grow.

According to overseas Vietnamese Prof. Trần Thanh Vân, Vietnamese candidates are expected to acquire a high status in the world intellectual map.
