Tens of thousands of visitors flocked to the Ngọ Môn Square, in which the 5,000-seat stage was as packed as sardines.

The festival started with an art program of 12 items of performances accompanied with firework display.

Up to 1,500 artists and technicians of 48 foreign arts troupes and 17 domestic ones are attending the festival.

The 9-day festival is part of the national program welcoming the 1,000th founding anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội and the 50th twinning anniversary of Hà Nội, Huế and Hồ Chí Minh City.

The event’s key cultural programs include a Traditional Long Dress Festival and several fine arts, photo and assemblage art exhibitions.
