Speaking at the Conference on implementing the socio-economic development plan and State budget estimates for 2010 convened in Hà Nội on January 6 and 7, Permanent Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng asserted that, socio-economic development amid challenges and difficulties has given us many valuable lessons on securing macro-economic stability and mobilizing all resources for development on the basis of a high socio-political consensus.

The Deputy PM emphasized that, in 2010, it is very essential to highlight the nation’s strengths and promote its international integration in order to fulfill the general targets set in the socio-economic development plan approved by the 12th NA at its 6th sitting session.

He noted that in this year of rehabilitation of “economic health”, “we cannot succeed without consensus."

At the conference, representatives of many localities showed their agreement to the Government’s draft resolution on major solutions to realize the socio-economic development plan 2010.

They also proposed new approaches which are based on their local actualities, focusing on poverty alleviation, investment, regional linkages, and labor cooperation.

According to some delegates, the Government should provide more preferential loans for expanding labor-intensive industries, such as footwear and garment, and assist coastal provinces to build dyke systems in response to climate change and sea level rise.
