Hai Phong urged to lead innovation progress
VGP – The northern city of Hai Phong was asked to take the lead in the reform progress; tap potentials to rise up strongly and comprehensively.

Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong made the calling on December 13 while attending a meeting between the Political Poliburo and the Standing Board of the Hai Phong Party Committee on 15-year implementation of Resolution 32-NQ/TW, dated August 5, 2003 on the building and development of Hai Phong City in the period of national industrialization and modernization.
A majority of ministries and agencies evaluated that over the last 15 years, local people have spared no effort to build up the city in a faster and more sustainable manner.
The local economy expanded rapidly, 1.68 times higher than the national average rate. In 2017, the size of the economy was 4.27 folds higher than that of 2003. Average GDP per capita hit US$ 3,964, 1.54 times higher than national average rate, up 5.43 times against 2003.

Economic structure was transformed towards modernization, industrialization, and urbanization. The industrial sector witnessed robust developments in large-scale industrial projects namely Nomura and Vinfast.
The city attracted VND 488 trillion of investment capital in the 2003-2017 period.
As the important port city and the major gate of northern provinces, however, the local economy fails to capitalize on its position and potentials especially it has yet uphold the role as a growth pole of Hai Phong-Ha Noi-Quang Ninh economic triangle.
Addressing the meeting, the Party chief stressed that Hai Phong is a city of extremely important position in politics, economics, culture, society, national defense, and diplomacy.
The city was asked to seriously review the Resolution to figure out both achievements and shortcomings.
The Party General Secretary agreed with the city’s development orientations and tasked the local authorities to take the lead in the renovation progress; uphold potentials to rise up in a faster and more comprehensive manner.
Ha Phong was urged to focus on maritime economy, sea services, logistics, industry, high-tech farming, culture, science and education, and uphold its central role in the northern region./.
