Ha Giang urged to step up infrastructure development

VGP – The mountainous border province of Ha Giang was asked to review planning and mobilize more resources in favor of socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made the call today while working with the local authorities.

The leader praised the efforts of the Party, local authorities and people.

Ha Giang, said Mr. Minh should strengthen connectivity with neighboring peers to capitalize on the advantages of economic regions and corridors especially in transport and seize the opportunities offered by ASEAN connectivity and cooperation between ASEAN and China.  

The province should develop export-oriented services; strengthen border management; lure resources for infrastructure development and create favorable environment to invite more investment to economic areas and industrial parks.

The Deputy PM also suggested the locality to upgrade infrastructure of Dong Van Karst Plateau.  

Last year, Ha Giang’s GDP growth rate picked up 8.05% against 2012.

The economic structure was transformed positively towards higher rates of industry-construction and service and lower proportions of agro-forestry and fishery sectors.

However, the local poverty rate was relatively high in which poor households accounted for nearly 27% of total population and GDP per capital made up a third of the national average./.
