HN to name street after General Giap

VGP – Ha Noi’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Department will propose the naming of a major street in the capital after General Vo Nguyen Giap.

October 08, 2013 6:31 PM GMT+7

Deputy Director of the department Truong Minh Tien said on October 7 that normally a street is renamed after a celebrity when he/she died for at least 10 years. However, for the case of General Giap, the department will submit the proposal to the Hanoi’s People Committee right after his death.

According to Tien, the department is considering a suitable street corresponding to the General’s great merits to the country.

General Vo Nguyen Giap, former commander-in-chief of the Viet Nam People’s Army, who masterminded the defeats of France and the United States, passed away in Ha Noi on October 4 at the age of 103./.
