Such measures aim to shorten current social distancing time, thereby helping to protect both material and spiritual life of residents, especially the poor, said Vu who is also Chairman of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The Deputy PM also said the Government would adopt regulations requiring that all people with travel records to/from pandemic areas, including Ho Chi Minh City shall have to make health declaration.

Those people may also be required to stay at home for at least seven days, Vu added.

The pandemic situation in the southern metropolis remains complicated, posing real threats to surrounding localities.

As of 7:00 pm on Tuesday, the city recorded 7,385 community infection cases since the fourth COVID-19 wave began on April 27, 2021, making it the current biggest COVID-19 hotspot in Viet Nam.

Of the figure, 900 are workers and wholesalers who have been detected thanks to the city’s mass screening efforts./.
