HCMC residents requested to STAY PUT to fight COVID-19

VGP – Residents in Ho Chi Minh City are ordered to stay put from August 23 in a bid to help limit spread of COVID-19 in the southern metropolis.

The number of daily new COVID-19 cases in Ho Chi Minh City and Viet Nam from July 1 to August 19

Authorities will provide residents with foods and necessities as well as care and support for vulnerable people.

The city will continue ramping up collection of COVID-19 test samples in “read” areas, taking care of COVID-19 patients to reduce death rate, and stepping up vaccination progress.

The city is the current epicenter of Viet Nam's fourth coronavirus wave since April 27 in which 164,342 local cases have been confirmed. 

Home to 13 million population, Ho Chi Minh City has undergone 43-day social distancing orders in line with the Prime Minister's Directive No. 16 but the COVID-19 pandemic situation remains complicated with thousands of new infection cases confirmed each day.

On August 19 only, the city recorded 4,425 cases, accounting for 41.5 percent of the country's daily COVID-19 patient tally.

Among the current patients, 40,451 are being quarantined and treated at home while 14,015 others are being treated at hospitals.

As of 6:00 am on August 20, the city recorded 166,679 cases, including 83,041 recoveries.

To date 5,190,971 residents have been vaccinated, of whom 171,067 got two jabs./.
