Those people, who wish to return to their homelands, were requested to fill in information forms on their vaccination status and reasons to leave the city. Especially, they were tested for COVID-19 before being transported to quarantine camps in their hometowns.

The High Command of Ho Chi Minh City also mobilized military vans to transport motorbikes of those people in a bid to ensure their safety.

Earlier, hundreds of thousands of people who were stranded in the City, flocked to the city’s entrances with motorbikes to drive  their families back to their hometowns in the Mekong Delta provinces of Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Soc Trang, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Ben Tre when HCMC lifted movement restrictions.

Their spontaneous movements may trigger risks of disease transmission and safety for themselves.

Vice Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee Nguyen Thuc Hien reported that the city has worked with other localities including HCMC and Binh Duong to welcome  its citizens with disease prevention protocols  ensured.

Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long provincial People Nguyen Thi Quyen Thanh said that the locality planned to repatriate 1,146 people stranded in HCMC. Over 200 of them will be transported to Vinh Long on October 2.

Vice Chairman of the Bac Lieu provincial People’s Committee Cao Xuan Thu Van said that the locality intended to bring 350 locals home on October 9. However, she suggested local people stay put in a bid to ensure disease prevention.

Chairman of the Soc Trang provincial People Committee Tran Van Lau recommended people avoid spontaneous repatriation and make registration in order to ensure safety during the pandemic time./.
