The Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum (HEF) 2018 took place late last week with the emphasis on the role of businesses in creating an innovative and interactive city.

As the leading Vietnamese economic engine, HCMC is striving for a rapid and sustainable growth by creating a conducive business environment and encouraging business start-ups and innovations.

HEF 2018 aims to discuss the role of businesses in building innovative urban areas and collect ideas on connecting different stakeholders in order to enhance the innovation capacity and efficiency of enterprises.

Through the forum, the city wishes to seek effective measures to mobilize resources and promote the strength of 372,000 enterprises based in HCMC, in building an innovative district in the eastern part of the city.

The municipal government pledges to do its utmost so that enterprises become the true drivers of an innovative city, with measures including speedier  administrative reform and a transparent legal framework to support enterprises.

As part of HEF 2018, the HCMC authorities introduced its plan to build the eastern part of the city into an innovative city and attract investment in accordance with this intention.

The initiatives and expertise presented at the forum are expected to help Ho Chi Minh City to promptly realize its goal of becoming a smart and innovative city.

Under the plan, the city’s eastern area, including districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc, will be developed into an innovative hub based on a digital and knowledge-based economy.

With the adoption of Resolution 54, which allows special policies to be created for HCM City, including more financial autonomy, the city now contributes 23% to national GDP, 30% of State revenue, 16% of industrial output, and 15% of exports.

To build an innovative urban area, the city, which is home to nearly one-third of the country’s enterprises, needs strong cooperation between the state, enterprises, scientists and investors. /.
