HCMC - A shining golden name

VGP – After 46 years since the liberation of the south and national reunification, the successful utilization of favorable factors has not only allowed Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) to attain prominent achievements, burst forward together with the country, and become a sentimental city worth living in, but also created a launch pad for entrepreneurship and innovation.

At noon on April 30, 1975, the beautiful sunny weather, which is rarely seen on an early summer day, was recorded at both ends of the country, Ha Noi and Sai Gon.

In Ha Noi, people poured down streets to celebrate the great victory marking the liberation of southern Viet Nam and the national reunification.

Meanwhile, over 1,700 kilometers away, the people of Sai Gon also flocked to streets to welcome the liberation army to enter the almost intact city.

HCM City’s economy has grown quite rapidly, with the quality of growth having constantly improved.

In the period of 2016-2019, the city posted an average annual GRDP growth rate of 7.72% and maintained its position as an economic locomotive of the country, accounting for 22% of the nation’s GDP and 27% of the total state budget revenue.

It can be said that HCM City’s economic size has now been much greater than that of Viet Nam in 2015 or earlier, even that of some countries in the region.

In its development orientation until 2030, with a vision to 2045, HCM City is identified as a smart city with fast and sustainable growth, a socio-economic and cultural locomotive for the country and for the happiness of people, and an economic, financial and cultural hub in Southeast Asia.

The city is currently counting on new mindsets in development in order to achieve its development goals and orientations for the next 10 years, 20 years and beyond.

Those thoughts come out and take root to open up a future perspective that there will be a smart urban area in the country’s largest city.

This perspective is quite feasible because in fact, innovation has contributed significantly to HCM City’s growth. The city has constantly improved the quality of growth, with its labor productivity being 2.6 times higher than that of the whole country and its GRDP 2.4 times higher than the national average.

The value-added industries have represented an increasingly high proportion in HCM City’s economic structure, despite the fact that the statistics may not fully describe the size and quality of its growth and innovation picture.

An important orientation that the municipal Party Committee and authorities have been following is to take people’s satisfaction as a measure of success, promote innovation movements, increase labor productivity, and strive to become the most creative locality in the country with its eastern creative city.
