HCM City’s CPI witnesses drastic decline in Jan.

VGP – Ho Chi Minh City’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January decreased 0.48% compared to the previous month, the most drastic decline over the recent years.

According to the city’s Department of Statistics, CPI in the first month of 2015 only increased 0.76% in comparison with the same period last year.

The reduction in the oil and gas prices led to decreases in prices of other groups, such as transport experiencing a drop of 4.8% and housing, electricity, water and fuel, down 1.5%.

The commodities and other services group saw the highest price rise among calculated groups with 0.92%, followed by beverage and tobacco, restaurants, food service, garment and hats around 0.2%.

The foodstuff price rose 0.34%. The prices of education, medicines and health services remained unchanged.
