Former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh

In her latest article on the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, Binh wrote that after the victory, Viet Nam began national construction amid numerous difficulties, including hard embargo, but the country overcame and has developed.

To gain the achievements today, Viet Nam has been keen on pursuing the independent and self-reliant economic development policy and upholding the will of national sovereignty protection and they are the core guidelines that have been fully grasped and closely intertwined.

During the past more than three decades of reform, Viet Nam has actively and proactively carried out international integration in a gradational and cautious manner from width to depth and comprehensiveness.

Binh stressed the history of the nation has shown that with its geopolitical position, Viet Nam could overcome mountain of hardships and difficulties and gain victories if the country maintains the policy of independence and self-reliance.

Nowadays, Viet Nam is signatories of a number of free trade agreements, especially the new-generation ones like the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Viet Nam-EU free trade agreement (EVFTA), opening up opportunities for the country to expand export market.

The Southeast Asian country has established strategic partnership with 16 countries, comprehensive partnership with 14 partners and special partnership with other three ones.

Binh expressed her belief that greater role, position and strength would help Viet Nam better protect independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity./.
