Great national unity block highlighted and solidified

General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) made the statement at the opening ceremony of the 7th VFF National Representative Congress on Monday in Hà Nội.

The event drew the participation of over 1,000 delegates including many top leaders of the Party, State, Government, National Assembly, organizations and international guests.

Addressing the Congress, the Party chief stressed that the event reflects the Vietnamese people’s resolve to strive for a “powerful country of prosperous people and fair, democratic and civilized society.”

He agreed with VFF’s Action Program in the period of 2009-2014, strongly believing that the successful implementation of the document will help VFF continue to play an important role in the society and the national political apparatus.

As a member of VFF, the CPV pledges to back the Front to accomplish its missions, said the Vietnamese General Secretary.

According to Mr. Mạnh, over the last five years, VFF has coordinated with relevant ministries, agencies and localities to launch various emulative movements to consolidate the national solidarity, promote democracy, and realize socio-economic goals.

VFF and other mass organizations have fostered ties with foreign friends for Việt Nam’s higher status and prestige on the international arena.

The Party chief noted the necessary for VFF to encourage all people to uphold their mastership, actively participate in building a transparent, powerful and law-ruled State, speed up anti-corruption, anti-prodigality and thrift practice, and voice positive criticisms in conformity with law.

To put its Action Program into reality, VFF should renew its operation, qualify its staff, improve grassroots performance, and diversify ways to rally and mobilize domestic resources, stated the Party General Secretary.

He also urged the whole Party, people and army to spare no effort to build a Vietnamese country of peace, unity, independence, democracy and prosperity.

On this occasion, the Congress intends to launch patriotic movements to welcome the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội, the 80th birthday of VFF and other big events.
