Gov’t to cut State economic groups

VGP – The Government plans to reduce the number of State economic groups from 11 to 5-7, said Minister, Chairman of the Office of Government Vu Duc Dam.

September 06, 2012 12:09 PM GMT+7

The Government Spokesman made the announcement on September 5 in Ha Noi at a monthly press briefing in reply to a question on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Construction to cancel the pilot scheme for two construction groups namely the Housing and Urban Development Corporations (HUD) and Song Da Corporation.

He said that at the July’s regular meeting, the Government had spent time on discussing on the restructuring of SOEs.

Accordingly, the SOEs restructuring plan will define clearly responsibilities of the PM, Ministries, Chairmen of board members and Chairmen of People’s Committees in State corporations.

The PM is in charge of big groups in which operations affect not only domestic business performance but also social security and national defense. Ministries take responsibility for other groups.

Minister Dam reported that the number of State economic groups would be slashed down to 5-7 ones, operating in the areas like petroleum, electricity and telecom. The others will be restructured and reorganized under the management of ministries./.
