Gov’t to assess resolution on Mekong Delta development

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc is scheduled to chair a conference which will assess the implementation of Resolution 120/NQ-CP on Sustainable and Climate Resilient Development of the Mekong Delta on June 18 in HCMC.

The Government issued Resolution 120/NQ-CP dated November 17, 2017 on Sustainable and Climate Resilient Development of the Mekong Delta in response to climate change. The resolution is a big decision of the Party and State on the Mekong Delta region in response to climate change. 

Hence, the upcoming conference will assess the two-year implementation of the resolution; figure out shortcomings and limitations.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha was quoted as saying that the conference will evaluate both the achievements and difficulties in implementing Resolution 120/NQ-CP; define tasks and solutions including mechanisms, policies, science, technology, regional coordinating mechanism, public and private partnership. 

In the morning, the upcoming conference will comprise four sessions including:

Session 1 on “Management of water resource, flooding, saltwater intrusion, responding to landslides in the Mekong Delta region which is chaired by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment”;

Session 2 on “Restructuring agricultural sector in response to climate change in the Mekong Delta region” presided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and trade, some localities, and development partners;

Session 3 on “Solutions to develop the transport system, infrastructure, and housing in favor of sustainable growth in the Mekong Delta region chaired by the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction, the HCMC municipal People’s Committee, some localities, and development partners;

Session 4 on “Planning work, regional coordination mechanism, and investment attraction in the Mekong Delta Region presided by the Ministry of Planning ad Investment in cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, other ministries, some localities, and development partners. 

In the afternoon of June 18, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc is scheduled to chair the plenary session. The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment is planned to deliver an important report on the implementation of Resolution 120/NQ-CP and solutions. 

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development will present a report on agricultural restructuring in the Mekong Delta region and tasks in the coming time. 

The Minister of Transport will present a report on transport infrastructure development and solutions to develop transport system connecting HCMC and Mekong Delta provinces and cities, tasks in the coming time. 

The Minister of Construction will present a report on infrastructure and construction development in the Mekong Delta region in the coming time. 

The Chairman of HCMC municipal People’s Committee will deliver a report on the roles and solutions to connect HCMC and Mekong Delta provinces. 

A leader from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will present a report on management of natural resource, flooding, saltwater intrusion, responding to landslides and upcoming tasks. 

The World Bank Country Director for Viet Nam will present a report on involvement of development partners for sustainable growth in the Mekong Delta region and implementation of Resolution 120/NQ-CP./.
