Gov't supports stronger defense ties with Thailand

VGP – The Government of Viet Nam pledges to support and create favorable conditions for the two armies to further strengthen cooperation, said PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The Government chief made the statement during his reception for General Surapong Suwana-Adth, Chief of Defense Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces in Ha Noi on Tuesday.

He spoke highly of the outcomes of cooperation between the two defense ministries, particularly after the two sides signed an agreement on defense coooperation in 2012.

The PM urged the two sides to seek new measures for full and effective realization of the agreement; enhance high-level contacts, defense policy dialogues and coordination, training and information sharing; and supporting each other on multilateral issues.

Viet Nam expects to work with Thailand to implement the two countries’ strategic partnership for development in each countries, for a prosperous and strong ASEAN, and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world, affirmed PM Phuc.

He went on to say that boosting friendship and cooperation with Thailand is always one of the top priorities in Viet Nam’s foreign policy towards ASEAN member countries.

According to General Surapong Suwana-Adth, his two-day visit to Viet Nam aims to further speed up the friendly and cooperative relations between the two armies.

The two armies agreed to maintain and promote their bilateral cooperation mechanisms, said General Surapong Suwana-Adth.
