VGP - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan phuc will chair a meeting to review 19-month implementation of the Government’s Resolution No. 120/NQ-CP on sustainable and climate resilient development of the Mekong Delta in Ho Chi Minh City on June 18.

June 18, 2019 8:01 AM GMT+7

The meeting will focus on evaluating outcomes of the resolution implementation, identifying key solutions for the coming time, and creating profound changes in the awareness and actions of all local governments and citizens of the 13 provinces and cities in the region.

The event reflects the Government’s strong commitments to facilitate the development of the region which accounts for 20% of the national population and 18% of the national GDP is facing severe impacts of climate change.

At the first meeting held in Can Tho city two years ago, Prime Minister Phuc pledged the Government will review the realization of the Resolution every two years

In a follow-up move, the Prime Minister signed Decision Non 417/QD-TTg dated April 13, 2019 approving an overall action plan to implement the Resolution with six sets of tasks and solutions.

A number of other programs that have been deployed in the region include the national target program on climate change adaptation and the program on climate change response and green growth. The two programs figure out around 40 projects mainly focusing on coastal dyke construction and restoration of coastal forests.

Last year, the Mekong Delta’s economy grew at four-year high of 7.8% compared to the national GDP growth rate of 7.08% and export value reached US$ 15.7 billion for the first time.
