Opening the meeting, the PM said that the event is taking place at a special time when China has still been maintaining the illegal operation of its drilling rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 in Viet Nam's exclusive economic zone and continental shelf since May 2, regardless morality, legal grounds and even the friendship between Vietnamese and Chinese people.

China's action not only violates Viet Nam’s sovereignty, sovereign right and jurisdiction, badly affects Viet Nam-China relationship but also seriously threatens the regional peace, stability and security, he added.

Efforts must be made to the fullest, the PM confirmed, pointing to the need to realize solutions suitable with international law to protect Viet Nam’s waters as well as maintain the peaceful and sustainable environment for the national socio-economic development,

This will be coupled with fulfilling the goals set for the year 2014, he said.

According to Minister of Planning and Investment Bui Quang Vinh, inflation and the consumer price index (CPI) were controlled in the first half of the year; the demand and supply were guaranteed. The CPI in June was lowest in comparison with the same period in the past 13 years. The gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter was higher than the first one and estimated to reach 5.18% in the first half.

At the two-day meeting, the Government has set to discuss  the Report on the socio-economic development situations in June and the first half of 2014, the implementation of Resolution No. 01/NQ-CP and the direction and management of the Government.

Cabinet members will touch upon the Report on the implementation of State-owned enterprises restructuring plan in the first half of 2014 and the orientations to use the revenues from restructuring and privatizing businesses.

The agenda will also include the Report on the East Sea situations and solutions among other reports./.
